2024 National Finals – adjudication core applications open

The New Zealand Schools' Debating Council is now accepting applications for the Adjudication Core of the 2024 National Finals of the New Zealand Schools' Debating Championships in Wellington, which are scheduled for Friday 24 May to Monday 27 May.

The adjudication core will consist of:

  • One Chief Adjudicator of the National Finals; and
  • Three to four Deputy Chief Adjudicator's of the National Finals.

Chief Adjudicator

The Chief Adjudicator will head the adjudication core for the National Finals. They are in charge of creating the list of motions that will be used by the convenors of the Regional Championships, motion selection for the National Finals, allocation of adjudicators to debates (preliminary rounds, semi-finals, and Grand Final), and the running of the draw.

The Chief Adjudicator, as well as the other members of the adjudication core, will also select the New Zealand Schools’ Debating Team. The Chief Adjudicator will also advise Council on the appointment of adjudicators for Nationals.

Council will meet the flight and accommodation costs of the Chief Adjudicator should they live outside Wellington.

Deputy Chief Adjudicator

Each Deputy Chief Adjudicator will assist the Chief Adjudicator in their relevant tasks. This includes motion selection for the tournament as well as the allocation of adjudicators to debates and the running of the draw. They will also, as well as with the Chief Adjudicator, select the New Zealand Schools’ Debating Team and advise Council on the appointment of adjudicators for the National Finals.

Council will meet the flight and accommodation costs of Deputy Chief Adjudicators should they live outside Wellington.

  • Feedback for Adjcore applications opens - Thursday 1 February
  • Feedback for Adjcore applications close - Saturday 3 February at 6 pm

Following on from its introduction in 2020, the New Zealand Schools' Debating Council will be instituting a feedback process for Adjudication Core applicants. The feedback process will be used as a mechanism for individuals to express concerns about an applicant and is not a general feedback process that you may see for a University Adjcore.

The applications will be considered by all non-conflicted members of the New Zealand Schools' Debating Council Executive.
